Obituary for Mary Margaret Patricia Ryan

Margaret Ryan
March 18, 1932 to February 9, 2019

Passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 9, 2019 surrounded by her immediate family, the amazing team and volunteers at Bradford Valley Community Care (her home for the past 10 years).
Margaret Ryan (nee Menzies) was born in Montreal, Quebec and moved to New Toronto in 1952 with her husband Terrance and first son Terry. Margaret was the fifth of 12 children born of Ann and Frederick Menzies.

When Margaret arrived in New Toronto she worked at Campbell’s Soup and then at Calgon Canada for the balance of her working career. Her favourite past-times were baking and collecting recipes from the newspaper which she shared with many who she came to know in her community of Mount Albert where she and her husband later retired. She became an avid World News and bird-watcher in her later years and loved to learn about the experiences of people whom she met. Her favourite outing was a road trip with her Ted, and a picnic for two by the river, as she watched him fish.

She will be sorely missed by her grand-daughter, Kristen Marie who nursed and cared for her during numerous hospital stays, her daughter Deborah, son Gary, son-in-law Joe, daughter-in-law Paula, grandchildren Daniel, Erik, Curtis and Kevin, and great grandchildren Avaeh and Emily. She is survived by her sisters and brothers, Betty, Helen, Pat and Ron and many nieces and nephews she always talked so fondly of.

We pray that Margaret will be reunited with her husband Terrance and first son Terry, her mother Ann, father Frederick, sisters and brothers, Rhodena, Norma, Ann, Mary, Gordon, Bill, and Fred.

We invite family and friends to join us for a Celebration of Margaret’s Life that will take place on Sunday, March 17th (St. Patrick’s Day) at 1:00 pm in Newmarket, ON at the Roadhouse and Rose Funeral Home. Her internment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery (Historic Paddy Town) in Newmarket on Friday, May 31st.

In Lieu of Flowers, donations may be made in Margaret’s name to the Alzheimer Society Canada or a charity of your choice.
