George Wiggers
After a long struggle with cancer, George Wiggers passed away peacefully in his own bed in his own home in the Meadows of Aurora in the embrace of his family on December 4, 2018. He was 74 years old.
George was born Gerrit Jan Wiggers in Aalten in the Netherlands on June 12, 1944. He was the 2nd of five children of John Hendrik Wiggers and Adrianna Johanna Sikking. The family immigrated to Canada in June, 1952.
Beloved husband of Sarah (nee Moelker), loving father of Lisa (Pierre) Story and Anna (Shawn) Graves. Proud Opa of Madison, Mackenzie, Emma, Eva, Julia and Karina. Dearly loved brother of Riki (Fred) Westrik, Dianne (Henk) Tebrake, Wilma (Albert) Vos, Audrey (Hessel) Vandervelde and Pam (Rob) Crute. Dear brother- in-law of Mien Van Schelven, Pieternella Matthysse, Brenda Moelker, Nellie (Dick) Roos and fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews.
George was a graduate of Ryerson Polytechnic Institute and long time member of the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists. He worked his entire life in the construction industry and loved it! He was a child of God, devoted to Church and Family. He loved to sing and was an enthusiastic member of the Crusaders male choir for many years. He served on the Board of the Meadows of Aurora, a Christian Seniors Home for 6 years until he became too ill.
The Memorial Service for family and friends will take place on Monday, December 10 at Bethel Community Christian Reformed Church, 330 Davis Drive in Newmarket. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm in the Sanctuary. The Memorial Service begins at 2:00 pm. Following the service, there will be a reception with further opportunities for visitation in the Fellowship Hall.
